The Visual Privacy Mode lets you instantly hide sensitive financial information in the Trading 212 app. Whether you’re on the train, in a café, or around others, your portfolio balances and transaction amounts stay out of sight.
Privacy Mode only affects what is displayed on your screen. It does not provide any additional account security or protection against unauthorised access.
We are gradually rolling out this feature to an increasing number of users.
How does it work on mobile?
On your phone, simply flip your device face-down and up to blur all sensitive values. Flip it again to reveal them again. The app uses your phone’s motion sensors to detect the gesture. If your phone remains face-down, balances will stay hidden until you flip it face-up again or exit the app.
To activate the flip gesture, follow these steps
- Go to the Settings menu at the bottom-right corner of your screen.
- Select Privacy & Security.
- Make sure ‘Flip phone to hide balances’ is enabled. This option is on by default.
📄 Note
The first time you flip your phone, you’ll see a short explanation of what happened and how to reverse it. You can dismiss this message permanently by selecting “Don’t show again”. Hiding balances does not reduce investment risk or change your exposure. You should always review full investment details before making decisions.
How does it work on web and tablet?
On web and tablet, look for the eye icon in the top-left corner of the screen. Tap or click it to toggle Privacy Mode on or off. A toast notification will confirm the current state (“Balances hidden” or “Balances shown”). Wherever you see the eye icon, it is used to introduce or control Privacy Mode.
What information is hidden?
Privacy Mode blurs anything that reveals how much money you have, earn, or move. Market data and percentages that are the same for everyone stay visible.
| Hidden | Stays visible |
| Portfolio value, free funds, cash | Instrument prices and FX rates |
| Transaction amounts (deposits, withdrawals, dividends) | Percentages (fees, yields, P&L %, allocation %) |
| Position values and quantities owned | Order parameters you’re setting (buy amount, limit price) |
| P&L in monetary terms | Promotional amounts (referral rewards) |
| Recurring deposit amounts | Regulatory limits (total ISA/SIPP allowances) |
| Used limits (ISA used, card limits) | Personal identifiers (name, address, tax ID) |
Can I turn off the flip gesture?
Yes. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security and toggle off ‘Flip phone to hide balances’. If Privacy Mode is active when you disable the gesture, your balances will automatically become visible again.
Will normal phone movements trigger Privacy Mode?
No. The gesture requires a deliberate flip of the phone face-down. Slight tilts and everyday movements will not activate it.
Does this setting apply to all my accounts?
Yes. The flip gesture setting applies at the customer level. Enabling or disabling it affects all accounts linked to your profile (Invest, ISA, CFD, etc.).
Is Privacy Mode available on tablets?
On tablets using the web interface, you can activate Privacy Mode manually using the eye icon. If the tablet has motion sensors, the flip gesture will also be available; otherwise, this gesture is limited to smartphones.
What is the eye icon on the home screen?
If you haven’t used the flip gesture before, you may see a small eye icon next to your investment value. Tapping it opens a brief introduction to Privacy Mode. The icon disappears once you use the gesture for the first time, or automatically after 60 days.
Does Privacy Mode work on the web platform?
Yes. On the web platform, use the eye icon in the top-left corner to toggle Privacy Mode on or off.
