When another company in our industry is hit by a security incident, a service disruption or a fraud campaign, we treat it as an early warning. Here’s what we do to keep your account and investments safe.
Why do incidents at other companies matter to Trading 212?
An incident elsewhere is rarely a one-off. Attackers often reuse the same techniques, target shared software and suppliers, and move quickly from one company to the next.
That’s why, whenever an incident is publicly reported in our industry, we ask two questions: “Are we affected?” and “Could we be?”
What do we do when we learn about a new threat?
Our security, engineering and operations teams act straight away. We:
- assess how the threat works and whether our systems, suppliers or processes could be exposed to the same weakness;
- review our logs and monitoring for signs of similar activity;
- check that the relevant software patches and configuration changes are in place; and
- test whether our existing controls would have stopped the attack.
If we find a gap, however small, we close it promptly. We also share information with industry groups, regulators and other firms, so the whole sector can respond faster.
What kinds of threats do we look out for?
We review new threats as they emerge. Common examples include:
- critical vulnerabilities in widely used software;
- weaknesses in the software supply chain;
- security incidents at other financial and crypto platforms; and
- fraud campaigns where scammers pretend to be trusted companies or authorities.
How do we protect you from scams?
Many threats target people rather than systems. Phishing emails, impersonation scams and fake support calls often spread from one company to the next.
When we spot these patterns, we update our fraud detection rules, brief our support team and, where it helps, warn you directly about what to look out for.

Trading 212 will never ask for your password or 2FA codes. If something seems unusual, contact us through the in-app chat or at info@trading212.com.
Will we tell you if a threat affects you?
Yes. We won’t alert you about every industry headline, but if a threat could realistically affect you, or there’s something you should do to stay protected, we’ll tell you clearly and promptly.
Our aim is simple: to learn from what happens elsewhere, so you’re better protected here.
