📄 Note
This article refers to the CFD Tax Certificate for CFD accounts only. If you are looking for your Invest Capital Income Statement, please refer to How do I get a Capital Income Statement?
Is the CFD Tax Certificate a German tax certificate (Steuerbescheinigung)?
Yes, the CFD Tax Certificate is an official Steuerbescheinigung.
It includes information related to your CFD activity for the tax year, such as:
- Total capital income
- German capital gains tax (Kapitalertragsteuer)
- Solidarity surcharge (Solidaritätszuschlag)
- Church tax (Kirchensteuer) where applicable
- Other relevant certificate figures
You can use it directly when filing your tax return.
Why do I have a CFD Tax Certificate but only a Capital Income Statement for my Invest account?
The difference comes down to whether German tax was calculated and withheld at source in 2025. For CFD activity, Trading 212 acted as a German withholding agent, meaning tax was calculated and withheld where applicable - which is why we can issue a full Steuerbescheinigung.
For trades with an Invest account, Trading 212 did not act as a German withholding agent for stock and ETF trades in 2025, so German tax was not deducted at source. This is why Invest clients receive a Capital Income Statement instead, which they need to use to calculate and file their own taxes. For more information, see How do I get a Capital Income Statement?
How do I use the CFD Tax Certificate for my tax return?
As the certificate includes pre-calculated tax figures, you can use it directly when completing your tax return. If you are unsure how to report any of the information, we recommend consulting a qualified tax adviser or your local tax office (Finanzamt).
