When you receive rewards through any of the campaigns, they are subject to a lock-up period. During this time, you can sell the shares and use the proceeds to invest again in your account, but you cannot withdraw or spend the cash value.
Once the lock-up period expires, the value of your awarded fractional shares becomes available to withdraw or to use within your account.
How to check your expiry date?
To see when your lock-up period for each of your referral rewards ends:
- Open the Trading 212 app and tap on the Account Menu icon in the bottom-right corner.
- Select Manage Funds.
- Tap on Withdraw Funds.
- On the withdrawal screen, you will see a section displaying each of your awarded free fractional shares along with their respective expiry dates.
- The expiry date next to each share indicates when the lock-up period ends and the corresponding value becomes available for withdrawal.
What happens when the lock-up period ends?
Once the lock-up period expires, the value of the free fractional share is unlocked. If you have already sold the share, you can then withdraw the cash, keep it as cash in your account or to place new investments. If you have not sold the share yet, you will need to sell it before you can withdraw the value.
Can I sell my free fractional shares before the lock-up period ends?
Yes. You can sell the fractional shares at any time, just like your other investments. However, the proceeds will remain locked until the original lock-up period expires. You will only be able to withdraw the proceeds after the expiry date.
Why can’t I see the expiry dates on the withdrawal screen?
The expiration countdown for your referral rewards will only become visible in the "Withdraw" section of the app after you have sold your free fractional shares.
You will not see the expiry section if:
- You still hold the free fractional shares and have not sold them yet, or
- The rewards have already fully unlocked (the holding period has passed), or
- You do not currently have any rewards from an active promotion.
How long is the lock-up period?
The lock-up period varies depending on the specific promotion. You can find the exact duration and conditions in the Promotion Specific Requirements for the relevant campaign, shown on the Trading 212 website or within the app. The rules in those Promotion Specific Requirements are the binding terms for how long your rewards remain locked.
