To pay for a subscription with your 212 Card, set it up directly with the merchant using your card as the payment method. You can view and track subscriptions in the Subscriptions section of the Trading 212 app.
Adding a subscription in the app does not set up a recurring payment with the merchant.
Where can I view my subscriptions?
Open the Card tab and go to the Subscriptions section. Select a subscription to view its details, billing frequency and payment history.
You can also view past subscriptions in the app.
How are subscriptions identified?
We use transaction information received from merchants and payment providers to identify subscriptions.
Automatic identification may not always be immediate or possible.
Examples include streaming services (Netflix, Disney+), music platforms (e.g. Apple Music), and similar subscriptions.
A recurring purchase, repeat order or automatic replenishment arrangement set up with a merchant does not necessarily mean that it will be identified as a subscription.
Some merchants process each payment as a separate card purchase or do not provide information showing that the payment is recurring.
When will a subscription be detected?
Subscriptions are typically detected automatically within 1-3 business days of a recurring payment being processed on your 212 Card.
A known subscription pattern may be identified automatically after the first completed payment. For less common or unclear payment patterns, up to three completed payments may be required. Identification is not guaranteed if the available transaction information remains insufficient.
Why hasn’t my subscription been identified?
Your subscription may not yet have been identified because:
- The payment is still pending, has been reversed or has been refunded.
- More completed payments are needed to establish a recurring pattern.
- The merchant or payment provider has not supplied enough information.
- The payment was made through a digital wallet or payment intermediary that did not provide enough transaction information.
Payments made through a digital wallet, payment intermediary or payment aggregator may be identified where sufficient transaction information is available. Identification is not guaranteed, and identifying one payment does not mean that other or future payments made through the same provider will also be identified.
If a subscription is not detected, you can try adding it from your card payments in the app. See “Can I add a subscription that hasn’t been detected?” below. You can also contact us for further information.
Can I add a subscription that hasn’t been detected?
Yes. You can select an existing card payment in the app to add it as a subscription.
- Open the Card tab and go to the Subscriptions section.
- Select the option to find subscriptions.
- Select the relevant card payment and confirm your selection.
- Follow the on-screen prompts, then check whether the subscription is shown as active.
📝 Note
Adding it to the app does not set up a recurring payment with the merchant.
If the app cannot add the payment, follow the message shown on screen. You can try another recurring payment or contact us for help.
Can I change a subscription’s billing frequency in the app?
Yes. Open the subscription’s details, select the option to edit its billing frequency, choose the correct frequency and save your changes.
Choose the frequency that matches your payments to the merchant. Changing it in the app does not change when the merchant charges you. It helps us identify your subscription correctly.
What happens if an expected subscription payment is not identified?
If the next payment is not identified when expected, the subscription may be marked as overdue. It will remain active during an overdue period based on its detected billing frequency. For example, if your subscription is billed monthly, it will remain active during an overdue period of one month. If it is billed weekly, it will remain active during an overdue period of one week.
You may receive push notifications and in-app messages when a subscription’s status changes.
Open the message to review the subscription details.
Why is a transaction showing as a subscription when it is not one?
We use your card transaction history to identify payments that appear to recur and display them in the Subscriptions section. This identification is an estimate and may occasionally be incorrect.
Being displayed in the Subscriptions section does not mean that a recurring payment has been set up.
- If the transaction is not an actual subscription, no future payments will be charged as a result of it being displayed in the Subscriptions section.
- If a transaction has been incorrectly identified, you can remove it from the Subscriptions section by opening the subscription details and selecting the option to unmark it as a subscription.
❗️ Important
Unmarking a payment as a subscription in the app does not cancel an actual subscription with the merchant. To cancel it, contact the merchant directly.
Why wasn’t my verification payment recognised as a subscription payment?
Card-verification authorisations and temporary holds are not used to identify subscriptions, regardless of their amount. This includes zero-value and non-zero authorisations.
Identification starts from the first payment for a non-zero amount that is not reverted. A declined, reverted or refunded payment does not start the identification period.
