When you want to buy or sell a security, you need to choose between Value order or Number of shares.
- When you select "Value", this is the monetary value of the buy/sell order, i.e., the amount you want to receive when selling or spend when buying.
- If you select "Number of shares", this is the quantity of the order you are placing. To switch between the two types when placing a market order, tap on the arrow next to the input.
📄 Note
The app remembers the order type of your last submitted order, separately for buying and selling. The next time you open the trade screen, that order type is pre-selected.
Why can't I use all of my funds or shares?
Number of shares
When you are buying, the final cost depends on the market price at execution. If the quantity you enter is too close to your total free funds, you will see a hint with the maximum amount you can invest with a value order instead. Tap it to switch to a value order and use 100% of your funds. This protects you from buying more than you can afford in case the price goes up quickly.
💡 Example
You have EUR 1,000 in free funds and enter a buy quantity of 10 shares at EUR 96 each, totalling EUR 960. The hint text will provide an option to place a EUR 1,000 value order instead. With a value order, the amount you spend is fixed, so your full balance can be used.
Value order
When selling, entering a value worth nearly all of your position will trigger a hint with an option to switch to a number of shares order for your full available quantity. Since a change in the price of the instrument changes the value of the order, this lets you close your entire position without being impacted by price changes.
How do I invest all of my free funds?
Tap the MAX pill above the keyboard. It pre-fills a value order using all of your free funds in the selected currency.
How do I sell my whole position?
Tap the 100% pill on the sell screen. It fills in your full available quantity as a number of shares order.
