The W-8BEN is a document declaring that you are not a US tax resident. When you fill it out, you lower the 30% tax rate you have to pay on any income (e.g. received dividends) generated from US stocks.

Am I required to fill in the form?
Yes, non-US investors must complete the W-8BEN form and have a valid Tax Identification Number to purchase US stocks through Trading 212.
How do I fill in the form?
You will be asked to do it while creating an account. Depending on your country of residence and country where you pay taxes, you will have three options to choose from.
Press Review & sign to submit the form.
The W-8BEN is valid for the year when it’s signed and the three following calendar years, meaning that it expires on 31 December.
Where can I find a copy of my completed W-8BEN?
If you've already completed a W-8BEN, you can download it yourself from the app
- Tap on the Menu tab
- Open the Documents section
- Go to Legal docs
- Select W-8BEN and download your form

The most recent version of your form is the one available for download. If you haven't completed a W-8BEN yet, it won't appear in the Documents section.
How can I check the form I am about to submit?
Tap on View form to check the details you're submitting. Once submitted, your completed form is available to download at any time from Menu > Documents.
