Whenever you are about to subscribe to a rights issue announced by a company, it is a good idea to double-check the required funds for the subscription. You will be able to see the sum needed in the e-mail sent to you. The subscription price at which each newly issued share can be purchased is at a discount compared to the current market price. In case of insufficient funds, you may receive the following message:
If 'Whitbread PLC' has announced a rights issue, the subscription for which requires £45, and you have less than these funds, you won't be able to subscribe for their rights issue.
In this case, you would have to increase your free funds by making a deposit or closing a position. Once the required funds are available as free funds, you can once again try to subscribe to the rights issue.
